Investigating the Efficacy of Selected Very-Long-Chain Fatty Acid-Inhibiting Herbicides on Iowa Waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus) Populations with Evolved Multiple Herbicide Resistances

چکیده

Very long chain fatty acid (VLCFA)-inhibiting herbicides (Herbicide group (HG) 15) have been applied to corn and soybean fields in Iowa since the 1960s. The VLCFA-inhibiting are now more frequently control multiple herbicide-resistant (MHR) waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus Moq. J.D. Sauer) populations that ubiquitous across Midwest United States as resistance is not widespread. Waterhemp has evolved resistances from seven sites of action (HG 2, 4, 5, 9, 14, 15, 27), six-way confirmed. Thus, objective this study was determine if selected less sensitive when additional herbicide traits within population. Dose–response assays were conducted a germination chamber efficacy three (acetochlor, S-metolachlor, flufenacet) on MHR populations. An herbicide-susceptible, three-way, four-way, five-way population responded treatments differently; however, several four-way exhibited ratios greater than 1 treated with acetochlor S-metolachlor. Selected subjected dose–response assay field using same herbicides, all achieved 80% at maximum labeled rate. results experiments provide evidence some may exhibit decreased susceptibility but generally, these remain efficacious

Herbicide resistances in Amaranthus tuberculatus: a call for new options.

Amaranthus tuberculatus is a major weed of crop fields in the midwestern United States. Making this weed particularly problematic to manage is its demonstrated ability to evolve resistance to herbicides. Herbicides to which A. tuberculatus has evolved resistance are photosystem II inhibitors, acetolactate synthase inhibitors, protoporphyrinogen oxidase inhibitors, and glyphosate. Many populatio...

Metabolism of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid contributes to resistance in a common waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus) population.

BACKGROUND Synthetic auxins such as 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) have been widely used for selective control of broadleaf weeds since the mid-1940s. In 2009, an Amaranthus tuberculatus (common waterhemp) population with 10-fold resistance to 2,4-D was found in Nebraska, USA. The 2,4-D resistance mechanism was examined by conducting [14 C] 2,4-D absorption, translocation and metabolism...

Population genetics and origin of the native North American agricultural weed waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus; Amaranthaceae).

UNLABELLED • PREMISE OF THE STUDY The evolution of invasiveness has been extensively studied in natural ecosystems; however, far less is known about the evolution of agricultural invasiveness, despite the major economic impact of weeds on crop productivity. Examining the population structure of recently arisen weeds can provide insights into evolutionary avenues to invasion of agroecosystems....

Resistance to PPO‐inhibiting herbicide in Palmer amaranth from Arkansas

BACKGROUND The widespread occurrence of ALS inhibitor- and glyphosate-resistant Amaranthus palmeri has led to increasing use of protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO)-inhibiting herbicides in cotton and soybean. Studies were conducted to confirm resistance to fomesafen (a PPO inhibitor), determine the resistance frequency, examine the resistance profile to other foliar-applied herbicides and investig...

A codon deletion confers resistance to herbicides inhibiting protoporphyrinogen oxidase.

Herbicides that act by inhibiting protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) are widely used to control weeds in a variety of crops. The first weed to evolve resistance to PPO-inhibiting herbicides was Amaranthus tuberculatus, a problematic weed in the midwestern United States that previously had evolved multiple resistances to herbicides inhibiting two other target sites. Evaluation of a PPO-inhibitor-r...
